Qs FROM CONSTITUENTS: ENVIRONMENT & TALISMAN

This blog series explores some of the questions I have been asked by Grey Highlands' constituents. This post reviews the questions asked of all candidates at the Kimberley All Candidates Meeting on Oct 5, 2022.

The following posts originated from questions from the Kimberley Community Association (KCA) Debate.

The following are the question topics:

Environment & Talisman

If elected what will you do to change or enact policies and bylaws that will protect our precious natural environments over the next 5 - 10 years and generations into the future? Please address your response from both environmental and economic perspectives related to the Talisman properties and other Grey Highlands environmentally sensitive land.

My vision of Talisman includes:

  • Smaller-scaled development that evolved in cooperation with the community.

  • Adherence to the current land use designations.

  • Publicly accessed lands.

  • Climate-conscious design.

  • Buildings and landscapes that reflect and enhance the natural beauty of this landscape.

  • This site as an employer and economic driver within our community.

From an environmental perspective, any development that occurs here must conform with the Official Plans of both Grey County and the Municipality of Grey Highlands. It is also subject to laws of The Niagara Escarpment Commission (NEC), as well the Grey Sauble Conservation Authority. These will ensure development is compatible with the natural environment. This area will require numerous environmental studies.

From an economic perspective, I think this site can contribute to Grey Highlands' overall prosperity as an employer and economic driver, for example, as a tourist destination.
